Budgeting for one transfer to baby
The total price for a single transfer, combining freezing, storage during the waiting period, and use-side costs, ranges from $5,800 to $11,800. Consider a 32-year-old patient who does one cycle in a mid-tier metro for $16,000, returns at 38 after five years of storage at $750 annually (totaling $3,750), and then undergoes one transfer: thaw at $1,500, ICSI at $2,250, transfer at $4,250, and monitoring at $550, summing to $8,550. That brings the total to roughly $28,300.

- When you freeze at age 38, the chance of success per egg drops. So doctors sometimes advise using donor eggs when you come back to use your frozen eggs.
Realistic case for multiple transfers
According to CDC ART data, per-transfer live-birth rates for eggs frozen before age 35 are roughly 30% to 45%, no matter when the transfer happens. For eggs frozen at ages 38 to 40, the success rate is about half that. The actual rate depends on the age of the egg and on the recipient’s factors. Plan for two transfers if your yield is high, and three transfers if your yield is low.[8]
Explaining PGT-A genetic testing
PGT-A screens embryos for chromosome issues. It costs $3,000 to $6,000 for 1 to 8 embryos from major labs such as Igenomix, CooperGenomics, and Natera. This test can reduce the risk of miscarriage. It is more helpful if you froze eggs at an older age or if you have had miscarriages. The drawbacks are the cost and a small chance of false-negative results. Talk to your reproductive endocrinologist about whether the test is right for you.
Implicit insurance premium view
A real option is a useful model for egg freezing. The upfront freeze cost corresponds to the option premium. The full-cycle cost corresponds to the strike price. The option’s expected value depends on whether it is exercised: as of 2021, 38.1% of patients had returned to use their frozen eggs, per Fertility & Sterility cohort data.[7] The remaining 61.9% paid only the freezing and storage fees, not the full-cycle cost. Planned oocyte cryopreservation, according to the ASRM 2023 ethics committee opinion, does not guarantee a future live birth.[20]
